The Russian Foreign Ministry on Thursday accused the United States of attempting to usurp the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace process to conform it to its own interests, saying that the Western players are interfering in regional issues.

The recently revealed U.S. offer to lease a road in Syunik—the same stretch of land that Baku wants for its so-called “Zangezur Corridor”—to be managed by an American company, has angered Moscow, which called those efforts destructive.

Russia is convinced that Washington is not able to make proposals that would go beyond the agreements already reached within the framework of the trilateral working group co-chaired by the deputy prime ministers of Russia, Armenia, and Azerbaijan, according to Russia’s foreign ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
